I was a professional juggler for like five years and all of my friends politely pretend it never happened.
Sometimes I will be holding three or more similarly sized objects and they will all shoot me the kind of warning glances typically reserved for cats who are about to swipe a fresh and crispy fish stick from a small child’s hand.
I gaze wistfully at a basket of apples and they all think, “Don’t you FUCKING dare,” so hard that I take psychic damage.
Hey everyone long time no see! For the new year I decided my main goal was going to be to get back into writing and I thought this would be a good incentive! Also, living in Boston is expensive, and college is even worse, and any little bit you could contribute would make me so grateful! I’m not really sure how this is going to work right now, so any suggestions of what you guys would like to see come out of this patreon/like to see me write would be amazing!
thank you so much!! idk if these are very helpful, but here are some of my processes?
-read a lot. i know this one is obvious but i do my BEST writing when i’m also constantly reading. when i don’t read, i have like, zero insp. so reading imo is really essential to being a good writer
-in that same vein, note what you like about a writer’s prose!!!! it can help you develop your own voice. the winner’s trilogy by marie rutkoski influenced me a lot, i think, as well as the an ember in the ashes series by sabaa tahir. the way rutkoski uses metaphors is just really stunning and i love how delicate and simultaneously simple and fierce her writing is.
-some writers focus on different things when they’re writing. some people use the environment more, some people use action more, but i really like to focus on expressions and emotions. body language. i like to close my eyes and put myself in the character’s position and i think “if i were them, how would this affect me? what would it feel like?” and i go from there. obviously, no two characters act or feel the exact same way, so you have to keep that in mind, too!
-talking your writing over with a friend is also SUPER helpful. i struggle with this bc i always feel like a burden, or like i’m taking up someone’s time unnecessarily lol, but i know lots of writers find it really helpful to discuss their story with someone.
-don’t be afraid to write like shit lol. i like to word vomit before i go back and fix it up to make it pretty. i’ve been known to spend like an hour on one paragraph in the editing stage lmao
-be kind to yourself. be patient. writing is a lot of hard work and it can be really draining, so if something isn’t sounding right, take a break!! walk away and do something new; it’ll be there when u get back.
i hope some of these help! i really still have a lot to learn when it comes to storytelling (i am TERRIBLE at outlining like you wouldn’t believe i suck so bad at it) but these are things i like to keep in mind when i’m working on new projects. <3
What gets me is that after the dog realized they were kinda scared, he/she lied down so the cows could be in control and feel safer. Such love. Animals are amazing.
i just accidentally absentmindedly ate a whole fucking apple. like i didnt even realize i was eating it until it was all gone. one moment it was in my hand and i guess my brain went: C O N S U M E
this is the scariest fucking reply anyones ever left on any of my posts what the fuck
